Op 27 juli 1998 herhaalde het NPS-programma Supplement een radio-special
met Don Van Vliet, beter bekend als Captain Beefheart. Deze special
bevatte een aantal unieke telefonades met de captain die we op

On July 27th, 1993, NPS Radio producer Co de Kloet had a lenghty
conversation by phone with the legendary Don van Vliet a.k.a.
Captain Beefheart. They had met each other in person twice. In
1974 when CdK was a young Beefheart/Zappa Freak, and in 1980,
when CdK, together with his cohort Menno Kalmann, interviewed
Beefheart for VARA Radio. They talked on the phone over a period
of years and in 1993 NPS (then NOS) made it possible to create
a 4 hour radio show, yes indeed...one of the famous Supplement
editions!, completely devoted to the amazing art of Van Vliet.

This show was repeated in a slighly modified version on July
27th 1998, not only on Radio 4 but also via webradio..... yes
boys and girls, a global manifestation of Captain Beefheart
and his Magic Band. We received a lot of request for tapes of
the show, which we will not provide due to legal reasons. For
your fast 'n' bulbous entertainment we have taken some pieces
from the 93 interview and make it available here. Some of the
