8-CHANNEL SOUNDSCAPE DIFFUSION AT SOUND TRAVELSSound Travels is an international series of 8-channel electroacoustic
concerts and composer residencies using the Richmond Sound Design
DM1616 Audiobox with Third Monk Software's ABControl software.
Traditionally, electroacoustic composers have spatialized their work
manually to an orchestra of loudspeakers from a stereo source. By
automating 8 pre-recorded channels of input with the Audiobox to 8
independent outputs, different layers of a work can move in space
independently. This creates a more musically complex experience that
is attractive for its likeness to listening in the everyday acoustic
environment.
A selection of soundscape works composed by Canadian and European
composers and realized during Sound Travels residencies in the past year
will be featured in the presentation. Sound Travels is produced by Darren
Copeland of New Adventures in Sound who will present the works and discuss
strategies for diffusing soundscape material in an 8-channel environment.
Seating for this presentation will be limited.
