'TAROT'
Symbols (signs, subject to culture) and archetypes (primal images,
universal, shared subconscious) are mainly visual phenomena. In this
composition my interest lies in symbolic sounds and archetypes in sound.
I have used the symbolism of Tarot - a traditional occidental divining
technique - as a starting point for the soundscape. The three cards I
drew for this purpose, for present, past and future respectively, are
'The Moon', 'Princess of Disks' and 'The Lovers'.
The Moon/present: starting point for this part is the solar eclipse of
august 11th 1999, when the moon blotted out the sun and it was day and
night at the same time. Different, opposed energy layers touch each
other in this, the centre part.
Princess of Disks/past and The Lovers/future: sounds change when put in
a different context. Although this may not be obvious, these two parts -
the first and the last - have much in common, for instance the source
material used. What started in the past takes its final shape, is
adapted, mutilated, merged, evolved or mutated in the future.
The structure of the composition is symmetrical.
